Belgium (Probably) Gets Two More Casinos
We noticed that we have a lot of android poker players from Belgium, so we didn’t want to deprive you guys from some Belgium gambling news.
Belgium knows very strict gambling regulations. Playing a hand of live poker is only possible at one of the 9 land based casinos. Offering online poker or online gambling of any kind is only possible when you have a proper online gambling license, which you can only obtain if you have a land-based gambling license.
The Belgium government is currently planning to issue to more land-based casino licenses, which would bring the total to 11. This could also include two more online casinos or poker rooms to start operating in Belgium.
The Belgium Gambling Authority stated in an interview it eGamingReview that they weren’t contacted yet on the matter, but that they would back all measures that would broader the Belgium gambling regulations. The current regulations date back to 1999, so we understand the position of the Belgium Gambling Authority.
Regulating Is The New Black
Belgium is not the only one who is updating its regulations. It appears to be new trend in the gambling world. Most countries feel the need to update or enforce new regulations due to the increasing popularity of poker and other games, especially online.
Currently the following countries are undergoing a reform of their regulatory regime:
- United Kingdom
- The Netherlands
Especially the Netherlands is undergoing some major changes. Currently only the state-owned company Holland Casino is allowed to offer live casino games. Other operators can only offer machine games. Online gambling, even online poker, is completely illegal in the Netherlands. The new regime, which literately translates to “The Bill, Games of Chance at a Distance”, will legalize online gambling in 2015.
